Shirley J. Moore

Shirley Jane Moore, age 89, a life-long resident of Zoarville, died Friday, April 12, 2024 in the care of Aultman Hospital following a short illness.

Born in Zoarville on March 10, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Herbert L. and Vera J. (Pyett) Homan.

While she was a student at Dover High School, Shirley met her future husband, Ralph T. Moore, whom she wed in 1955.

Shirley worked as a clerk at Ehlers General Store in Zoarville and served as a bus driver for the Tuscarawas Valley local schools.

She and Ralph were very active members of St. Paul’s Community Church in Mineral City where they served as the treasurer and financial secretary for numerous years. Shirley shared her beautiful voice with the choir and was a significant part of the women’s ministries of the church.

Past times included sewing, quilting, crocheting, and reading.

Shirley will be deeply missed by her children, Janet (Garry) Cornell of Bolivar, Robert (Marcia) Moore of Flushing, Michigan, and Kathy (Barry) Collins of Dover; six grandchildren, Kevin (Lexi) Cornell, Rachel (Andrew Thayer) Cornell, Stephen Moore, Ethan (Kristen) Moore, Luke (Allie) Moore, and Drew Moore; her great-granddaughter, Annabeth Moore; numerous nieces and nephews; and her siblings, Jim (Margie) Homan and Marjorie Hufsteter; and her sister-in-law, Shirley Ann Homan. Shirley was eagerly awaiting the birth of her second great-grandchild in October, too.

In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in passing by her siblings, Barbara Butler, Clara Garrett, and Bill Homan.

The family will receive guests one hour prior to a memorial service on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, from 10 to 11 a.m. Pastor Mark Gross will lead a service immediately following the visitation at 11 a.m. in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. All are invited to share in a meal and fellowship in the St. Paul’s Community Church following the services.
