Sometimes, it's the combination of seemingly ordinary ingredients that make a recipe become an extraordinary family treasure. And Scott Pearce Weckel was that extraordinary family treasure. It was the way Scott went about living that made him something of a Michelin star. Now, Scott's star is burning brightly from above, where he is most assuredly entertaining and charming those who have gone before him.
Scott was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1957, and eventually moved with his family to Canton, where he attended Lehman High School.
He was a sailor, a chef, a printer, a tinkerer. Water was an ingredient with which Scott was very familiar. He was a Merchant Marine, and sailed with his father, becoming head cook on the ship, receiving several commendations. When Scott's father owned PIP Printing, Scott worked for him for fifteen years, including running their Belden Village location. Scott's tinkering helped him lend a hand at the Canton Museum of Art, where he was a maintenance supervisor. Heaping cups of curiosity and inquisitiveness helped Scott to build an electric-powered pedal car, from scratch of course, customizing it to accommodate his constant companion, Casey, his beloved dog. Together, they traveled the neighborhoods of northwest Canton.
His habit of dispensing copious amounts of humor and goodwill made his home a magnet to neighbors. With Scott, there was never a level teaspoon of anything. He was liberal in his kind deeds for neighbors, friends, and strangers. In retirement, he took pleasure in repairing computers. He cheerfully donated plasma twice a week, and was generous in his portions of goodness in many other ways. As her caregiver, it's fair to say Scott made the last year of his mother's life much more enjoyable.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Beverly Weckel. He is survived by sisters, Leslie (Tim) Jeandrevin and Cynthia (Ralph) Johnson; two beloved nieces, Sarah Finke and Emily Lewis Hetrick; and two nephews, Clay and Grant Johnson.
A celebration of life will be held April 18, 2026 at The Dawg House Sports Bar on 30th St. NW, Canton from 4pm to 6pm, where those who loved him can gather together to savor the free-spiritedness and utter lack of pretense that was Scott Weckel.
Fly high Scott and may the wind always fill your sails!
