Obituary

Scott Fitzgerald Davis, age 65, of New Philadelphia died Wednesday, May 13, 2026, in his residence, following a year-long battle with lung cancer.

Born in Union Hospital at Dover on September 14, 1960, Scott was a son of the late John C. “Jack” and Shirley P. Breneman Davis.

He was a 1979 graduate of New Philadelphia High School where he played varsity football and baseball. He furthered his education at the Ohio State University where he studied Music Performance; having had a rare opportunity as a college Freshman to be selected to sing as a member of the Crimson Chorale.

Scott joined the work force and worked for many years for Associated Grocers in Dennison and Later Flemming Foods in Massillon. His last 15 years of employment were with Guggisberg Cheese, until he was forced to retire early due to his health.

Scott was an avid sports lover. He enjoyed cheering on the Cleveland sports teams, was a true “Tribe” fan, an active golfer, and a Buckeyes Football fan. He had a unique sense of humor and an uncanny knack of being able to imitate the voices and mannerisms of those around him in just a short period of time. This ability made him a natural on stage as through the years he performed in many Little Theatre productions. He had a great love of all music and while it sometimes took some prodding from family and friends used his natural vocal talents to perform at weddings and special events. Among his other skills, he had an incredible memory which allowed him to recall sports statistics and actors in movies or shows off the top of his head.

Scott will be deeply missed by his wife, the former Michele Smith whom he married on October 12, 1985, his step-daughters, whom he loved as his own, Leslie Keffer of Chesterhill, Ohio, and Lauren Moran of Centennial, Colorado; granddaughter, Lia Moran; a brother, Brock (Suzanne) Davis of Dennison; a sister, Cecily Fincher of New Philadelphia; his father-in-law, Michael K. Smith of New Philadelphia; a brother-in-law, Mark Smith of Bowling Green, Ohio; nephews, Nathan and Jeremy Davis and their families and Logan Smith.

In addition to his parents, Scott was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Ken Fincher, and mother-in-law, Mary Smith.

In honoring Scott’s wishes there will be no public visitation or services. Cremation will be handled through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.

Contributions in Scott’s memory may be directed to The Little Theatre of Tuscarawas County, 466 Carrie Avenue NW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
