Ruthann Fuhrer, age 86, of Strasburg passed away peacefully on April 15, 2023. Ruthann was born on July 23, 1936 in Strasburg, Ohio to the late Donald and Ruth (Fowler) Snyder. She was married for more than 65 years to her beloved, Jack Fuhrer, who survives her, and with whom she raised three children. Before starting her family, Ruthann studied education and graduated from Kent State University. She later earned a master’s degree in education from Ashland University. Many will remember her as a kind and dedicated elementary school teacher in the Strasburg-Franklin Local School District, where she taught for many years. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Ruthann is known within her family as “Grandma Sweetie,” or simply “Sweetie,” a nickname found fitting by all. She was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church in Strasburg and was a member along with her husband of numerous camping clubs.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, James Snyder, and sister-in-law Joanne Snyder. Ruthann is survived by her husband Jack; son Joseph (Patti) Fuhrer; son Herb Fuhrer; daughter Lori (Neal Bell) Fuhrer; grandchildren Jason (Breanna) Fuhrer, Michael (Casey) Fuhrer, Lisa (Brian) Keith, Joshua Fuhrer, Henry Bell and Frederick Bell; great-grandchildren Nathan Keith, Austin Keith, Jackson Fuhrer and Ella Fuhrer, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2023, in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. A funeral service celebrating Ruthann’s life will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023, at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church of Strasburg, with Pastor Jason Rissler officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Union Cemetery in Strasburg and will be followed by lunch in the fellowship hall at First Lutheran Church.
