Ronald Pruett

Ronald L. Pruett, age 82, of New Philadelphia, passed away early Thursday, May 16, 2024, in his residence following a period of declining health.

Ron was born on May 11, 1942, in his family home outside of Centerburg, Ohio. He was a son of the late Thurman “Sam” and Velma (Hall) Pruett.

Ron was a 1960 graduate of Centerburg High School.  While in high school Ron played football, basketball, and baseball.  Through high school he also worked for his father in his plumbing and heating business.  He then began a career in banking in the Centerburg and Grandville area.  In 1972 he relocated his family to New Philadelphia.   After many years of banking in New Philadelphia and Dover, Ron opened Commercial Roofing and enjoyed working with the various contractors in the area.

Ron always had a joke to tell.   He also never met a stranger and was gifted in finding people he knew wherever his family might be vacationing.   Ron would greet people with a hug and kiss or a firm handshake.

He was a man of many talents.   He was a gifted painter not only on houses, but also as an artist.  Ron also played guitar and loved to sing.  He often shared his talents at Faith Christian Church where he was a charter member.  In the church’s early years, Ron was instrumental in remodeling their first building, as well as serving as building chairman when they built their building on Pleasant Valley Road.

On July 22, 1961, Ron married Sharon Tucker and together the couple have spent the last 62 years building a family that includes their children, Roni (Jan) McInturf of New Philadelphia, Robin (Jeff) Toth of Twinsburg, and Ryan (Danielle) Pruett of Atwood Lake; grandchildren, Taylor (Michael) Garan, Tessa (Colton) Hutchison, Roman McInturf, Evan McInturf, Kayla (Bill) Stinson, Caroline Toth, Samantha Pruett, and Tucker Pruett; great-grandchildren, Maisyn, Marshall, Malin, Kayt’lynn, Da’June, and Lucile.

In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his brother, Keith Pruett, and sister, Jean Compton.

The family are planning a Celebration Service for Ron at a later date.

Memorial contributions in Ron’s name may be directed to Faith Christian Church 2012 Pleasant Valley Rd. NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663 or Ohio’s Hospice Foundation 716 Commercial Ave. SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
