Roberta "Birdie" Metcalf

Roberta “Birdie” Metcalf, 89, of New Philadelphia, passed away in Hanover House at Massillon on Thursday, May 22, 2025 after a period of declining health.

Born on her family farm in Belmont County, she was a daughter of the late Robert W. and Helen (Kleevic) Feeley.

She was a 1954 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. On June 6, 1956, she married the love of her life, Buster Metcalf. Together they enjoyed 64 years of marriage before his passing in December of 2020.

Birdie worked for many years at the credit bureau until her retirement. Birdie was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Church and active in the Christian Mothers Alter Society. She also volunteered at Sacred Heart School Library, Tuscarawas County Birthright and was a member of Tuscarawas County Historical Society.

Birdie is survived by her children, Michael (Karen) Metcalf, Julie (Lance) Johnson, Dianna (Shannon) Young, Catherine (Kevin) Reilly, Elizabeth (Rob) Rennicker; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and sister, Susan (Larry) Murphy. Numerous nieces and nephews complete the family.

In addition to her parents and husband, Birdie was preceded in passing by her daughter, Anita Metcalf.

Father Jeff Coning will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church on Saturday, May 31, 2025 beginning at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
