Robert Dale Glass, age 90, of New Philadelphia died peacefully, Sunday, May 7, 2023, while in the care of Community Hospice’s Truman House, following a period of declining health. Bob was one of the kindest, loving, faithful, hardworking, and ornery people you will meet. He loved God, his family, and most of all his wife, Dorthy.

Born in York Township, Tuscarawas County, Ohio on April 17, 1933, Bob was a son of the late Elmer and Oresco Rainsberg Glass.

He attended New Philadelphia High School and went on to join the United States Air Force from 1949 – 1953 during the Korean War. On November 28, 1953, in Tacoma, Washington, he married the former Dorthy McFall. Together the couple raised four children and have shared nearly 70 years of marriage.

Professionally, Bob was employed as a member of the Maintenance Staff of the former U.S. Ceramic Tile in East Sparta and briefly worked on the railroad.

He was a longtime, active, member of Emmanuel Lutheran where his works of labor and love will long be found. He was a skilled woodworker and tiler having laid a great deal of the tile in the church including all of the bathrooms, and made beautiful wood pieces for the sanctuary and lobby. Additionally, he served as the church custodian, and through the years, served on many committees, and church council. His favorite acts of giving were on Sundays when he served as a greeter and as the bell ringer at the conclusion of Sunday services.

Bob was also a handyman and remodeled homes for 30 years around Tuscarawas County and donated his time and skills to Trumpet in the Land by tiling their bathrooms.

He enjoyed playing baseball and was a great pitcher for the Tuscarawas County team. As an avid baseball fan, he especially enjoyed the Cleveland Indians (Guardians) and Akron Aeros (Rubber Ducks). His other pastimes included: hunting, shooting guns, woodworking, walking at the mall, traveling, and working jigsaw puzzles alongside his wife, Dorthy.

Survivors include his loving wife, Dorthy Glass, their children, Terry (Terri) Glass of New Philadelphia, Ohio, Kathleen (Todd) Beatty of Tallmadge, Ohio, and David (Jennifer) Glass of Spring, Texas; a daughter-in-law Denise Glass of New Philadelphia, Ohio; grandchildren, Troy (Chasity) Glass of New Philadelphia, Ohio, Joshua (Helena) of Akron, Ohio, Toby (Heather) Glass of Columbus, Ohio, Samantha (Jason) Reed of Dover, Ohio, Savannah Glass of Spring, Texas, Felicity Glass of Spring, Texas; 14 great-grandchildren, sisters-in law, Wilma Daniel of Corryton, Tennessee, and Donna Miller of New Philadelphia, Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews.
