Robert L. Evans, 84, of Dover, passed away peacefully at home on May 13, 2026, following an apparent heart attack.
Born February 9, 1942, in the family home in New Philadelphia, Bob was the son of the late Edward and Charlotte (Monroe) Evans.
A proud 1960 graduate of New Philadelphia High School, the “Blonde Bomber” excelled in both basketball and football. Bob dedicated more than 43 years of service to AK Steel. On June 6, 1981, he married the love of his life, Sandra “Sandee” Troendly, and together they shared nearly 45 wonderful years of marriage.
Bob worked hard throughout his life, never slowing down, and as a “jack-of-all-trades” no project was too daunting for him. But nothing meant more to him than his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend who dedicated his life to caring for those he loved. He proudly supported his sons, Jeff and Jerry, throughout their football years at New Philadelphia High, shared a passion for cars with his son Bobby, and spent four years following Bobby as an enthusiastic Dover Marching Band parent.
Becoming a grandfather brought Bob immense joy and pride. He loved being there to see Christy become the owner of her own hair salon and Megan advance from a nurse to become pain management director for a local hospital. He very seldom missed Haley and Max’s softball and baseball games, and when Gabriel was born, Bob lovingly called him “the light of my life.”
Bob was an avid fan of college football and basketball and proudly rooted for the Ohio State Buckeyes. He also enjoyed playing golf with friends and family and vacationing in Myrtle Beach. He had a great sense of humor and always appreciated a good joke. Bob was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Dover.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Sandee; his children, Jeff (Vickie) Evans of New Philadelphia, Jerry Evans of Canal Fulton, and Bobby (Stephanie) Evans of Orrville; his grandchildren, Christy (Darrell Shafer) Evans, Megan Evans, Haley Evans, Max Evans, and Gabriel Evans; his great-granddaughters, Penelope Mulheman, Mila Mulheman, and Bay Mulheman; his sisters, Donna Gardner, Nancy Seabrook, Marie Reymond, and Irene Aubihl; his brothers, Chuck “Red” Evans and Ed (Mary Lou) Evans; and his sister-in-law, Wendy Evans.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Alan Evans and Danny Evans; his sisters, Beverly Watson, Charlotte Evans, and Ruth Ann Evans; and his in-laws Edwin and Doris Troendly.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. for calling hours at the Geib Funeral Center in Dover. A funeral service celebrating Bob’s life, officiated by Pastor Brian Flood, will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions in Bob’s memory may be made to Akron Children’s Hospital, One Perkins Square, Akron, OH 44308-1062, or Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northeast Ohio, Inc., P.O. Box 72764, Cleveland, OH 44192-0002.
