Richard E. Quillen, 78, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Aultman Hospital in Canton. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Born on May 11, 1947, Richard was a son of the late Elton and Josephine (Horn) Quillen. He was a graduate of New Philadelphia High School where he played the trombone as a member of the Marching Quaker Band.
In his early years, Richard was a member of REACT and was employed by the former Reeves Steel Company at Dover. He later relocated to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida for nearly four decades where he was employed in the bookkeeping office of the Mai-Kai Polynesian Restaurant. While living in Florida Richard enjoyed boating, riding his Harley, and enjoying the sun, sand, and palm trees.
Upon his retirement, he moved back to New Philadelphia where he was a member of the New Philadelphia First Christian Church. He enjoyed activities at the Tuscarawas County Y.M.C.A. and attending New Philadelphia Quaker football games. He also loved supporting his great-nephews in their sporting activities.
Richard will be missed by his niece, Candie Gordon-Gomola; his great-nieces, Tiffani (Tony) Gerber, Trisha (Shane) Page, and Tara (Matt) Page; great-great nephews, Mitchell Troyer, Brayden Troyer, Lucas Page and Seth Page.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Ann Gordon and a brother, Ed “Eddie” Quillen.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be led by Pastor Jamie Blickensderfer on Monday, March 9, 2026 at 6 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia with the family greeting guests one hour prior to services from 5 – 6 PM in the funeral home’s chapel. Private burial will take place at a later date in the East Avenue Cemetery.
