Raymond Mathias

Raymond D. Mathias, 85, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully in Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital, Monday, April 8, 2024, following a lengthy illness.

Born in Mill Township, Ray was a son to the late Dewey and Lucille (Everett) Mathias. He was an honorably discharged veteran having served in the United States Army.  Ray worked for many years as a mechanic at Superior Clay.  In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, and all sports.  He was a supporter of local high school athletics, as well as the Cleveland Browns and Guardians.

On October 5, 1963, Ray married the love of his life, Tena Berger and together they raised their son, Brent Mathias of Cadiz.  He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ciara (Shaw) Bernard, and Oliver Mathias; brother, Adrian Mathias; and ex-daughter-in-law, Rachel White.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by a grandson, Bryer Mathias; brother, Otis (Alice) Mathias; and sisters, Leona (George) Page, Linda (Lee) Rowe, and Mable (Paul) Wesson.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation care is to be provided by the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.  There are no services planned at this time.
