Raphael “Ray” Schilz, age 95, of New Philadelphia, passed away on May 17, 2026, at his home under the care of Ohio’s Hospice.
Born in Platte Center, Nebraska on July 30, 1930, he was the son of the late Leo L. and Mildred M. (Schroeder) Schilz.
Ray served his country in the United States Navy and upon return from service, he completed his formal education at Tri State University in Angola, Indiana where he studied engineering.
On June 21, 1958, he married the love of his life, Beverly Schilz, whom he celebrated 67 years of marriage with prior to her passing on October 26, 2025.
After marrying Beverly, they moved to New Philadelphia, where Ray began working for the former Joy Manufacturing. He spent his entire career there as a design engineer before retiring in 1992.
Ray and Beverly enjoyed traveling and visited nearly every state together. He was also a devoted member of Sacred Heart and earned the honor of becoming a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, maintaining his membership for 69 years.
In retirement, he devoted numerous years to the former Hospice of Tuscarawas County, now Ohio’s Hospice, as an active volunteer.
Ray will be missed by his Linda (Terry) Stalnaker of Dover, Collette Schilz of New Philadelphia, Paula (David) Allensworth of Wainwright, and Rene Burke of New Philadelphia; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Roslyn (Carl) Albersmeyer of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and many cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, Ray was preceded in passing by his sisters, Ann (John Duane) Clark and Leola (Lester) Pillen; and young brother, Cyril Mark Schilz.
Father Jeff Coning will lead a Memorial Service in Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Saturday, June 6, 2026 beginning at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
Memorial donation in Ray’s memory may be directed to Ohio’s Hospice Truman House, 716 Commercial Ave. SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
