Pamela K. Mizer

Pamela K. (Phillips) Mizer passed away on October 7, 2026 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born August 31, 1951, to the late Bill and Rosemary Phillips in Providence, Rhode Island, she was the oldest of seven siblings. She moved to Ohio with her parents as a young child and graduated in 1969 from St. Joe’s High School in Dover.

She married the love of her life, Charles E. Mizer, the following year. They were married 55 years and together raised two children, who were her pride and joy.

A lover of books, language, and grammar, Pam was a librarian in the New Philadelphia School District for many years — first at York Elementary School and later at Welty Middle School. She was a born educator and taught generations of students—including her many faithful library helpers—to use and love the library.

She was a devoted member of the United Church of Christ for over 55 years and belonged to the First U.C.C. of Sugarcreek for nearly the last two decades. She served at various times as church secretary, Sunday school teacher, youth advisor, and choir member.

Pam loved to sing, to cook, and to bake — especially countless Christmas cookies

every year. She was a dedicated AFSCME member and proud Democrat who

volunteered for Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign, during which she was thrilled to meet both Obama and Joe Biden. She was a life-long learner and loved nothing more than visiting her children wherever they found themselves — from Columbus to Washington, D.C., to Europe.

She is survived by her loving family, including her husband, Charlie; daughter, Steph (Jenn), and son, Ben (Scott); her siblings Bill (Karin) Phillips, Deb (Terry) Immel, Mary Phillips, Tom (Krissy) Phillips, Bob (Debi) Phillips, and Teri Sue Evans; her siblings-in-law Bill (Lynn) Mizer, Pat McMillin, and Ann Mizer; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Gilbert and Sara Mizer; brother-in- law Dan McMillin; and an infant son.

Visitation will be held in the Geib Funeral Center, 5600 N. Wooster Ave., Dover on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 from 5 to 7 p.m. A service celebrating Pam’s life will be held in the funeral home on Thursday beginning at 11 a.m. with Rev. Earl Rogers officiating. Immediately following the service, a luncheon will be served in the funeral home’s reception center. Inurnment will take place Thursday at 2 p.m. in Ridgecrest Memory Garden at Dover.
