Packey Pasquale Velleca Jr., 74, of Carrollton, died Tuesday, May 8, 2018 in Community Hospice Truman House at New Philadelphia following a period of declining health.
A son of the late Packey Pasquale Velleca, Sr. and the late Mary Elizabeth (Bradley) Velleca, Packey was born September 16, 1943 at Stow, Ohio.
Packey was a longtime worker in the grocery business and eventually retired from Thorne’s IGA at Carrollton. He was also a volunteer for the Community Hospice Browse & Buy at Carrollton. Most of all, Packey enjoyed the outdoors, kayaking and bicycling and especially riding motorcycles with his good friends, Vern Perry and Chic Underwood.
He is survived by his children, Packey (Gina) Velleca III of Glendale, Ohio, Juliet (Bill) Mullett of Hilliard, Ohio and Mark (Stephanie) Velleca of New Philadelphia; his grandchildren, Nikolas, Caleb (Tiffany), Noah and Leah; a sister, Patsy Purdon of Silver Lake, Ohio; and close friend, Carole Salisbury.
In keeping with Packey’s wishes, cremation will take place through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. The family will host a memorial service on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 11 AM in the First United Methodist Church, 253 South Lisbon Street, Carrollton, OH 44615 with Rev. Dan Loomis officiating.
