Owen T. McClure

Owen T. McClure, 94, of Bolivar and formerly of Dover, passed away peacefully in Hennis Care Centre at Bolivar, following a period of declining health.

 

Born in Garretts Bend, West Virginia, Owen was the son of the late L. Lawrence and Onna I. (Alford) McClure and had retired from Lockheed Martin at Orlando, Florida where he had worked as both a forklift operator and truck driver.

 

A “Man of Nature”, Owen would often find any excuse to be outside. He loved taking back roads and viewing the countryside. He loved spending time at the Norma Johnson Center and had built a number of BlueBird boxes to be placed around the numerous trails. He was also an avid fisherman and attended the Anchor Baptist Church at Massillon.

 

On January 14, 1950, Owen married the former Kathleen F. Hill and together shared over 60 years of marriage until her passing in March 2010. Surviving is his daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Terry Flitcraft of Bolivar; three brothers, Jim McClure of Ocala, Florida, Clint McClure of Merritt Island, Florida and Carl McClure of Warner Robins, Georgia; his two granddaughters, Kristina and Kerrie; five great-grandsons and two great-great grandchildren.

 

In addition to his parents and his wife, Owen was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Miller; an infant son, David McClure; an infant daughter, Beth McClure; a granddaughter, Kelly Jacobs and two sisters, Levana Griffith and Eloise McClure.

 

Graveside Services will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 1 PM in Dover Burial Park at Dover with Pastor Mark Jacobs officiating.

 

The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to either the Norma Johnson Conservation Center Foundation, 125 East High Avenue, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663, or, the Parkinson’s Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, Florida, 33131.
