Ola K. Parsons, 85, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family and reunited with his two daughters, Patricia Walker, and Pamela Whitman, in heaven on February 14, 2023.
Born in Malvern on July 14, 1937, Ola was one of 11 children born to the late Fred and Deborah (Ray) Parsons. After high school, Ola enlisted into the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, he began a long career working for the former Reeves Steel at Dover.
Ola attended the Christian Temple at Uhrichsville and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Tusco Gun Club at Midvale. Ola possessed the ability to fix anything as his grandson would say, “He was a jack of all trades and a master of each and every one of them.”
On July 25, 1959, Ola married Elizabeth A. “Tizzie” (Buss) Parsons, and together they shared over 63 years of marriage before his passing. Also surviving are his granddaughter, Jasmine (Brandon) O’Neal of Dover; his two grandsons, Keith Alan Roberts of New Philadelphia, and Shay Whitman of Port Washington; five great-grandchildren, Ashley, Gabriel, Pamela, JR and Kendrick and his sister. Faye Breehl of New Philadelphia.
In addition to his parents and his two daughters, Ola was also preceded in death by six sisters, Ruby “Sis” Lyles, Gladys Thoburn, Nada Parsons, Betty Rothacher, Shelby Weaver, and Connie Butler and three brothers, Ralph Parsons, Larry Parsons and Billy Parsons.
The family will greet guests on Saturday, February 18, 2023, beginning at 10:30 AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where Pastor Larry Hostetler will lead a service in the funeral home’s chapel beginning at 12:00 PM. Burial will follow in the East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia where the New Philadelphia VFW will conduct military honors.
The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to Crossroads Hospice, 3743 Boettler Oaks Drive, Ste. E, Green, Ohio 44685.
