Nita J. Hilbert, 89, of Carrollton, Ohio passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 26, 2026, at her home surrounded by her family.

Nita was born September 2, 1936, in her family home at Rosedale, West Virginia.

On January 14, 1956 she married the love of her life Wilbur Hilbert. They enjoyed 59 years of marriage before his passing in May of 2015. She was a longtime Superintendent of the nursery at Canton Baptist Temple. After she moved to Carroll County she joined the Lakeview Baptist Church in Dundee.

Nita was known for her love of canning and her baking skills. She always made sure family and friends had their favorite pie for birthdays and holidays. And everyone enjoyed her Christmas cookies that were made throughout the month of December,

She is survived by her daughter, Sherie (Victor Harold) Clark, Jr. of Carrollton; “special daughter,” JoAnn (Ed) Clark; sister-in-law, Violet Allen; nieces, Dawn (Scott Purlee) Allen, Heather Allen Rosenberger; nephew, Darren Scott (Emmy) Allen; special grandchildren and great-grandchildren”, Landon (Corrin) Clark and their children, Brooks and Brynn, Lindsey Clark and her children, Lila and Everett Moore, and Marcy (Jeff) Robinson and their children, Hannah and Ella, Corey (Samantha) Clark and their children, Jayden and Jireh, and Kevin (Sarah) Wagner and their children, Dean, Andon, Ansley and Grant, who all knew her as “Grandma Nita”; and numerous cousins.

Nita was preceded in death by her parents, Eythel Faye and Vera Inez (Dobbins) Allen; her husband Wilbur Hilbert; and brother, Lyle Parker Allen.

The family will greet guests on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home and Crematory at New Philadelphia. A service honoring Nita’s life will be led by Pastor Thomas Shank beginning at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Memory Garden.

The family wishes to thank Ruth Pastore, Susan Miller, Rhonda Porter, Corrin Clark, Kris DeWitt and JoAnn Clark for the special care that they provided to Nita.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made in Nita’s name to Ohio’s Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
