Millard B. Niver, Ph.D.

Dr. Millard B. Niver, Ph.D., age 91, of Dover, passed away Sunday, December 21, 2025 in Aultman’s Compassionate Care Center at Canton following a period of declining health.

Born in Bradford, Pennsylvania on January 22, 1934, he was a son of the late Millard Adam and Hester (Geer) Niver.

On August 13, 1955 he married the love of his life the former Margaret Thelma Hess. Together they have enjoyed 70 years of marriage.

Millard was a man devoted to learning. He received an Associate’s degree from Buffalo Bible Institute, a Bachelor’s degree from Taylor University, a Master’s degree from Purdue University and finally his Ph.D. in mathematics education from Kent State University. He taught at Warren Junior High School in Warren, Pennsylvania until he became a professor at Malone College in Canton, Ohio.

In his free-time he enjoyed woodworking. He was a dedicated craftsman who made beautiful furniture. He also enjoyed nature, working in his garden or tending to honeybees. He could be found on the golf course in nice weather.

He was a proud member of the Sigma Zeta mathematical society, serving as faculty advisor for many years. In retirement he was an active board member of Canton School Employees Federal Credit Union. He served several terms as the board chairman.

Dr. Niver will be deeply missed by his wife Margaret Thelma Niver; children, Denise (Mark) Mathias of Blissfield, Michigan; Brett Niver of Whitinsville, Massachusetts, and Nanette Nino of Dover; grandchildren, Erin (Jay) Petrella, Rachel (Matt) Donegan, Breanne Mathias, Enrique Nino, and Angela Niver, great-grandchildren, Aiden Petrella, Adelyn Donegan, and Maxwell Donegan; sisters, Martha Clever, and Kathy (Ken) Keyes; brother, Lewis (Cora) Niver; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Anne Beyer.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation care has been entrusted to the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will plan a celebration of his life at a later date.
