Michael Ray Martinelli, age 74, of New Philadelphia, died early Monday, March 9, 2026, surrounded by his family following a lengthy illness.
Born in Dover, Ohio on March 4, 1952, Mike was the youngest son of the late Angelo Dominic and Ada Winifred Walker Martinelli.
Mike was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic School class of 1970 and a 30-year employee of Greer Steel at Dover.
Mike was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Church at New Philadelphia. When Mike was young, he enjoyed racing quarter midget cars with his dad and brothers. He was a sports enthusiast, a lifelong Notre Dame Football Fan, and enjoyed coaching girls’ softball and basketball. He also loved traveling with his wife, always finding the perfect casino to play poker and slot machines. After becoming a grandpa, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and watching their activities.
He will be missed by his family which includes his wife of 29 years, Debbie; his children, Rachel (Ed) Schurdell of Grafton, Ohio, Megan Glover of Huntersville, North Carolina, Kara (Adam) White of Twinsburg, Ohio; Jason (Alicia) Martinelli of Olympia, Washington; his step-daughters, Nicole Beans of New Philadelphia and Kimberly Cox of Dover; his grandchildren, Jacob and Dalton (Brooke) Schurdell, Riley and Addison Glover, Emily and Maddy Martinelli, Makiah Fluellen, Melody Johnson, and Gavin and Meadow Blind; and a great-grandson, Myles Schurdell,
Completing the family are a sister, Patricia Finley; a brother, Eugene (Martha) Martinelli, and a sister-in-law, Jill Martinelli as well as his nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by two brothers, James Martinelli and John Martinelli.
The family will greet guests on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, from 5 – 7 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where a wake service will begin at 6:45 PM. Fr. Jeff Coning will celebrate a memorial mass on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at 10:30 AM in Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia.
