Michael F. Horvath, 52, of Streetsboro and formerly of New Philadelphia, died Monday, September 9, 2024, in Boston Heights, as a result of injuries that he sustained in a motorcycle accident.
Born at Akron, Michael was the son of the late David S. and Frances E. (Carillo) Horvath. He was a 1990 graduate of New Philadelphia High School before furthering his studies at Kent State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. This education laid the foundation for a career characterized by service and a relentless desire to support those around him.
Michael began his distinguished career in law enforcement with the Sugarcreek Police Department, where he displayed a steadfast commitment to serving the community. His dedication and exemplary work led him to the State of Ohio Department of Mental Health Addiction Services, where ascended through the ranks to hold the position of Lt. Chief in Command. In 2022, he was honored to be promoted to the position of Chief, a role in which he continued to demonstrate his leadership and integrity.
Michael was known for his kind and welcoming nature, complemented by a great sense of humor that endeared him to many. His genuine warmth and ability to connect with others significantly impacted his colleagues and friends. In his personal life, Michael found joy in riding his motorcycle and traveling, exploring various parts of America and several countries, particularly the Philippines. He cherished the time spent with family and friends, creating lasting memories through shared experiences and adventures.
He is survived by his sister, Susan (Carl) Nesselrode of South Carolina and his brother, Dean (Mary) Horvath of Maryland; his four nephews, Matthew, Nicholas, Alexander and Anthony; his three nieces, Ashley, Destinee and Isabella; his two great nieces, Adelai and Penelope; his best friends, Eric and Teresa Simmons and his former wife, Cindy Horvath.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation care is to be provided by the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. The family will be hosting a Celebration of Michael's life on Saturday, September 14, 2024 beginning at 10:30 AM in the Geib Family Center, located adjacent to the funeral home.
