Michael E Dorsey

Michael Eugene Dorsey, 80, of Dennison and formerly of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2023, at Fairview Hospital, surrounded by his family, following a long period of declining health.

Born in Dennison on February 22, 1943, he was the son of the late Robert John and Mary Helen “Tink” (Kail) Dorsey.

After graduating from St. Mary’s in 1961, Mike joined the United States Army, where he spent the last year of his service in Vietnam. He completed his Bachelor Degree in Education at Findlay College and his Master’s Degree at Akron University.

Mike married the former Norma Jane Hooker on June 6, 1970 in Immaculate Conception at Dennison.

Professionally, Mike taught a variety of subjects, served as both principal and athletic director and taught driver’s education for Steubenville Catholic Central, Indian Creek School District, Conotton Valley High School, and Indian Valley Schools. He also loved coaching football and golf.

In retirement, he enjoyed daily worship at Sacred Heart Church followed by walking and socializing with friends at the mall. However, his greatest joy was spending time with his granddaughter, Jenna, whom he lovingly referred to as “Grandpa’s Sweetie Pie”.

Mike will be deeply missed by his wife, Norma Jane; his daughters, Tammy (Kenneth) Houston of Dennison and Tanya (Heather Howdyshell) Dorsey of Lakewood; his granddaughter, Jenna Houston of Dennison; and “bonus daughter”, Regina (Chris) Kail of Dover.

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his son, Ty Allan Dorsey, who passed away September 10, 1995; his brother, Robert Gerald Dorsey; and his in-laws, C.H. and Norma L. Hooker, Sr.

Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Monday, August 21, 2023 from 5 to 7 p.m. Father Jeff Coning will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church on Tuesday beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery at Dennison.
