Melverna Ann Adams

Melverna Ann Adams, age 85, of New Philadelphia, joined her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 19, 2025, while in the care of Ohio’s Hospice Truman House at New Philadelphia.

Born on September 12, 1939, in Navarre, Ohio, Melverna was a daughter of the late Mareta R. (Manse) and Robert A. Winkhart.

She was a graduate of the former Navarre High School and on December 13, 1958, married Charles R. Adams, Sr. Together, the couple lovingly raised their three children and shared countless adventures on Lake Erie in their retirement years. Following 65 years of marriage, Charles preceded Melverna in death on January 21, 2024.

Melverna was known for her loving, caring, and giving heart. She found great joy in her role as Director of the former Royal Haven Villa in Strasburg, where she cherished the opportunity to care for the residents. Her compassion extended far beyond the workplace—touching the lives of her family, neighbors, church community, and many others.

She had a deep love for crocheting and found delight in her monthly trips to Peoli, where she would pick up dozens of eggs to generously share with others. Melverna’s kitchen was a place of warmth and welcome; she loved cooking for her family and friends, especially preparing candies using treasured recipes passed down through generations.

Her legacy of kindness, generosity, and love lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.

She will be missed by her children, Charles Adams, Jr. of New Philadelphia, Robin (John) Weber of Dover, and Mareta (Tim) Albrecht of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Bow Shane Adams, Erica (Doug) Ash, Taneka (Robert) Butler, Patrick Weber, Shalisa (Carter) Page, Joliena Albrecht, and Zachary Weber; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Pearl Adams, Lincoln Butler, Cason Butler, and Charlotte and Oliver Page; a sister, Dixie Lynch of Canton and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Melverna was preceded in death by her siblings, Charles R. Winkhart and Sally Mihalega.

The family will greet guests on Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 10 – 11 AM in the Calvary Baptist Church, 1507 Oldtown Valley Road SE, New Philadelphia. A celebration of Melverna’s life led by Pastor Don Snow in the church beginning at 11 AM.
