Martha L. Torgler, 87, of New Philadelphia, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 17, 2024, in Lifecare Hospice-Truman House at New Philadelphia.
Born August 25, 1936, in Dover, to the late Jason and Katherine (Wilden) Barcus, she led a fulfilling life as a dedicated cashier at the former Hills Department Stores. She was known for her warm smile and incredible singing abilities that brightened the lives of those around her. Her children lovingly referred to her as the "Best Mommy" in the world, a testament to her unwavering love and care.
Martha had many passions that brought joy to her life. She adored watching hummingbirds outside her window, solving puzzle books, and indulging in her favorite TV shows such as Westerns, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and religious programs. She found immense pleasure in watching the Cleveland Indians play and reading books about the Amish culture. Martha cherished moments spent fishing and camping with her family, taking leisurely drives through the Amish countryside, dining at Amish restaurants, and admiring Christmas lights during the holiday season with her son, Jim.
Martha was a graduate of New Philadelphia High School, and a longtime member of the Goshen Community Church, yet her proudest accomplishment was taking every opportunity she had to spend time with her great granddaughters, Morgan and Kennedy. These precious moments brought her boundless joy and fulfillment.
She is survived by her son, Jim Torgler of Goshen; two daughters, Carol (Jim) Powell of Tuscarawas and Marla Torgler of Columbus; a grandson, Nathaniel Powell and great-granddaughters, Morgan and Kennedy; a step granddaughter, Allison Colletti and step great-grandson, Maxwell Willison.
In addition to her parents, Martha is now reunited with her beloved husband, Charles F. "Fred" Torgler; a son, David Torgler; two sisters and three brothers.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation care is to be provided by the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia and a private burial, beside her husband, will take place at a future date.
