Marlene M Gromley

Marlene Marie Gromley, age 84, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully, in her residence, early Saturday, November 1, 2025, following a months long battle with cancer.

Born in Union Hospital at Dover on December 24, 1940, Marlene was a daughter of the late Melvin and Martha Risher Struchen.

She was a graduate of New Philadelphia High School and attended The Ohio State University, where she studied business. Professionally, Marlene spent many years as an administrative assistant and secretary and retired from ProVia at Sugarcreek.

To know Marlene was to love her wonderful sense of humor and carefree spirit. She was an avid fan of The Ohio State Football Team, the Cleveland Browns, the NFL, and NASCAR. She also enjoyed watching dog shows on television and never passed up an opportunity to take a trip to Wheeling Island. Her other passions in life included spending time with her family, and relaxing on the beach, especially the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

She will be missed by her son, Ronald (Lori) Mizer of Canton; her daughter, Mindy (Darryl) Wagner of New Philadelphia; her grandchildren, whom she adored, Matthew (Leah Durec) Mizer, Michael (Jessica) Mizer, Marissa Wagner, and Cody (Jessica) Wagner.

In addition to her parents, Marlene was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Gromley; a son, Brian Mizer, and a brother, Thomas Struchen, who was killed while serving in Vietnam.

In honoring her wishes, there will be no public services. The Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia is handling cremation care.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Ohio’s Hospice for their care of Marlene during her illness and ask that memorial contributions in her name be directed to the Ohio’s Hospice Foundation, 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
