Marie Phyllis Abbuhl

Marie Phyllis (Campbell) Abbuhl, age 89, of Tuscarawas, Ohio, passed away on April 30, 2026, while in Hennis Care Center at Dover.

She was born on August 11, 1936, in Bowerston, Ohio, to the late Faye Elizabeth (Hefling) Campbell and Clyde Campbell.

Marie was a proud graduate of Tuscarawas-Warwick High School. She went on to further her education at Kent State University, where she earned her nursing license and later earned a Bachelor of Arts from Graceland College. Marie dedicated her life to caring for others through her work in nursing, serving at both Union Hospital and Twin City Hospital. She ultimately retired as the Director of Nursing at Twin City Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, leadership, and commitment to patient care.

A lifelong member of Sharon Moravian Church, Marie was confirmed 75 years ago this spring. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she was actively involved in many areas of the church, including the choir, Fellowship Ladies Aide, and the brass band, where she played the trumpet.

Marie was a devoted and loving grandmother who found great joy in spending time with her family. She was always engaged in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating lasting memories with each of them. She had a special love for cats and was a passionate fan of Cleveland sports, rarely missing an Indians or Cavaliers game.

Marie also had a deep love for travel and adventure. She enjoyed long drives and exploring new places, humorously noting her “broad carbon footprint.” Even in the last year of her life, she drove more than 28,000 miles, embracing every opportunity to see and experience the world around her.

She is survived by her children: David (Mary) Abbuhl of Franklin, Tennessee; Randall (Maria Pueyo) Abbuhl of Hightstown, New Jersey; and Sharon (Michael) Herchik of Uniontown. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Alicia (Daniel) Gohdes and their children Benjamin, Calvin, and Margot of Munster, Indiana; Rebecca (Sean) Gradey and their children, Logan and Sloane of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Rachel (Jason) Peterson and their children Sienna, Alden, and Luke of Chagrin Falls; Laura (Mark) Hubert and their son Kade of Hudson; Jordan Vesco of Dennison; and Andrea (Simon) Abraham and their children Isabella and Priya of Massillon.

Marie is also survived by her brother, John (Marie) Campbell of Pickerington; her sister-in-law, Lottie Abbuhl of Dover; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth W. Abbuhl.

A celebration of Marie’s life will be held in the Sharon Moravian Church on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 11 AM with the family greeting guests from 10 – 11 AM. The Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia is handling arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sharon Moravian Church, 4776 Moravian Church Rd. SE, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
