Margaret Edie, age 93, of New Philadelphia, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2026, while in the care of Ohio’s Hospice Truman House, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Gnadenhutten, Ohio on June 3, 1933, Margaret was a daughter of the late William and Dorothy Glazer Shull.
She was a 1951 graduate of Gnadenhutten High School and a 1952 graduate of Columbus Business College.
Throughout her life, Margaret was a hardworking and dedicated woman. She held positions with B&S Transport, Wilmot Mining, Dover Milling, and Union Camp, and she also managed a Lawson’s convenience store. Her strong work ethic, determination, and willingness to help others were qualities admired by everyone who knew her throughout her 70-year professional career.
Ever the civic minded individual, Margaret enjoyed local politics having ran for the New Philadelphia City Council At-Large Position in the late 1960s. She enjoyed many years with her close friends as a member of the Eastern Star Chapter 222.
One of Margaret’s greatest joys in life was cooking. She had a special gift for bringing people together through food, whether she was preparing a meal for her family, cooking for her church, or making sure no one ever left her home hungry. Her kitchen was a place of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Cooking wasn’t simply something Margaret enjoyed; it was one of the many ways she showed her love and cared for others. Her delicious meals and the love she poured into every dish will be remembered for generations.
Margaret was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend whose kindness, generosity, and love for her family will never be forgotten. She found happiness in the simple moments spent with those she loved, and her presence brought warmth and comfort to family gatherings. She leaves behind a lifetime of beautiful memories, family traditions, and a legacy of love.
She leaves behind her loving daughter, Cynthia Edie; her grandchildren, Christina Carper and Corinne (fiancé, Joseph Watrous) Carper; sisters, Bonnie (Fred) Edie, and Lillian Ruffini; her special niece, Crystal Quicksall; nephews, David (Claudia) Ruffini, Bill (Pam)Ruffini, Richard Edie, Gary Lane, and David Lane.
She also held a very special place in her heart for her great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, Margaret is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond Edie; her newborn daughter, Elaine; a nephew, Doug Lane; and a brother-in-law, William Ruffini.
The family will greet guests on Friday, October 23, 2026, from 1–2 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where A celebration of Margaret’s life will be led by Mr. Dale Gowins beginning at 2 PM. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Guests in attendance are invited to join the family for a time of fellowship in the Geib Family Center following the services.
Margaret will be deeply missed by her family, friends, church community, and all who knew her. Her love will live on through the family she cherished, the traditions she created, and the memories shared around her table. Though her kitchen may be quiet, the love she shared will remain in our hearts forever.
