Margaret Cheslock

Margaret V. Cheslock, age 92, of New Philadelphia, passed away on January 11, 2026, at Park Village Nursing Home in Dover following a period of declining health.

She was born on October 5, 1933, in New Philadelphia, Ohio, and was the daughter of the late Stanley F. and Mary Agnes (Gladstone) Cheslock. Margaret was a 1951 graduate of New Philadelphia High School.

Margaret devoted her life to caring for others, especially her parents, her brother, and any family member in need. Her life was marked by selflessness, kindness, and quiet dedication. She was employed by the Tuscarawas County Treasurer’s Office and later retired from the Social Security Administration. Even in retirement, Margaret remained active, working for Ameridial as a telemarketer and later at Wendy’s, where she took pride in maintaining the cleanliness of the restaurant.

A talented and dedicated musician, Margaret was an accomplished organist who devoted many years of service to First United Church of Christ in New Philadelphia and later to First Mennonite Church in Sugarcreek. She also shared her love of music by giving piano lessons to local children.

Margaret enjoyed music, flower arranging, writing poetry, and working in her yard—as long as she didn’t get dirty. She especially enjoyed going out to eat and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her nieces, Judy Cheslock Vinson and Darlan Cheslock Erlandson; numerous great-nieces and nephews; great-great-nieces and nephews; great-great-great-nieces and nephews; her uncle, Richard Cheslock; as well as many cousins and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Stanley Cheslock, and two nephews-in-law, Bruce Erlandson and Barry Vinson.

Visitation will be held at Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia on Monday, January 19, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., with a service beginning at 11:00 a.m. A private burial will take place at East Avenue Cemetery in New Philadelphia.

Memorial contributions may be made in Margaret’s memory to the charity of the donor’s choice.
