Linda Margaret Bennington, 77, of New Philadelphia, died Saturday, May 23, 2026 in Amberwood Manor following a period of declining health.
A daughter of the late William Wesley and Margaret Cora (Brookover) Thrasher, Linda was born May 7, 1948 at Ravenna, Ohio.
Linda was a 1966 graduate of James Garfield High School and on November 25, 1972, she married the late Eddy D. “Ed” Bennington. The couple reared three children, Laurence, Melinda and Abigail.
Linda devoted much of her life to caring for and serving others in her community. As a certified day care provider, she lovingly cared for numerous children over the years, becoming a trusted and cherished presence for many families. She was deeply involved in community and youth organizations, serving as a 4-H advisor and Girl Scout advisor, and was instrumental in organizing a Boy Scout troop known as Tiger Cubs. Linda also generously gave her time to the New Philadelphia Marching Quakers Band, where she was an active Band Mother and supportive band parent who helped in countless ways. In earlier years, she was a dedicated member of the Modern Homemakers Club, serving as secretary and participating actively in its many activities.
Her faith and church family at Schoenbrunn Moravian Church were central to her life. Linda faithfully participated in Women’s Fellowship, Ruth Circle, choir, and Sunday school, where she shared her kindness and guidance with others. She also took part in the Scarf Project in New Philadelphia, helping hang scarves throughout the community for those in need during the winter months. In addition, Linda managed the gift shop at Trumpet in the Land for many years, where her warm personality and dedication were appreciated by visitors and coworkers alike.
Linda’s creativity and talents were recognized throughout the community as well. She earned a blue ribbon at the fair for a cross-stitch project, reflecting her love for craftsmanship and attention to detail. Her many contributions and dedication to her family and community were honored when she was named Outstanding Young Woman of the Year at the annual New Philadelphia Jaycee Women’s banquet. Throughout her life, Linda exemplified generosity, service, faith, and compassion, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Laurence "Larry" (Alana) Bennington, Melinda (Scott) Knisely and Abigail "Abby" Bennington all of New Philadelphia; four grandchildren, Annalie Sandoval, Trinity Bennington and Alexander "Alex" and Allison "Allie" Knisley; sisters, Carol (Dan) Mendoza and Debbie Smith; brother, William (Estella) Thrasher; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Linda was preceded in passing by her husband, Ed; her parents; and her brothers, Jeff and Art.
