Larry Russ

Larry A. Russ, age 86, of Dover, died peacefully, Monday, March 11, 2024, while in Walnut Hills Retirement Community at Walnut Creek following a period of declining health.

 Born in Massillon on May 10, 1938, Larry was a son of the late Alfred Russ and Lucy (Schandel) Russ.

 He was a 1956 graduate of Timken Vocational High School and then continued his education with Timken Roller Bearing Company and his apprenticeship as a Machinist.  He was also the owner and operator of R-Mac Machine.

 Larry was a breeder of champion Cocker Spaniels and an avid hunter.  Also in his spare time, he built four houses and loved to work in construction. Larry and Norma spent their retirement traveling in an RV.  He was proud to have visited every state in the union and over half of Canada.

 Larry is survived by his wife, the former Norma Hinkel whom he married on April 28, 1962; his sons, James (Sharon) Russ of Waynesburg, Thomas (Dee) Russ of Massillon, and John (Karyn) Russ of North Canton; grandchildren, Daniel Boyle, Amy (Joseph) Michel, Jessica (Daniel) Pellegrene, Gabriel Russ, Elizabeth Russ, Gideon Russ, and Jonah Russ; great-grandchildren, Lucy, and Dominic; sister, Sandra (Jack) Lightbody; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 In addition to his parents Larry was preceded in death by a sister, Sally Mills; and brothers, James Russ, and Timothy Russ.

 The family will greet guests on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00PM in the Geib Funeral Home at Dover.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Jimmy Hatfield on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover.
