Krista Luise Schupbach, 78, of Dover, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, May 9, 2025.
Krista, affectionately known as “Oma” by her family, was born on October 18, 1946, in Wiesbaden, Germany, to the late Friedrich Hans Langer and Hedwig Erika (Sternberger) Langer. After the passing of her mother, she was adopted and lovingly raised by the late Colonel Oliver Tillman Simpson and Marcia Loraine (Moulton) Simpson.
As a young child, Krista moved from Germany to the United States. She met her future husband, Leslie R. Schupbach, in high school. Krista pursued higher education and earned a bachelor’s degree, gaining expertise in both theology and education. She led the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW) and guided many in their faith journeys through teaching the RCIA program. Her compassion extended beyond the classroom—she provided hospice care to a senior and supported a local student in completing her education.
Professionally, Krista was devoted to her work as a substitute and theology teacher at St. Vincent–St. Mary High School in Akron.
Oma was a wise, generous, and deeply loving wife and mother. She was also a gifted chef who brought warmth and kindness to everyone she met.
Krista was married to Leslie Schupbach and together, they were blessed with the birth of their children including Michael (Grace) of New Mexico, Gregory (Krista) of Dayton, Roberta (Dennis) Schupbach of Missouri, Edward (Kate) of Maine, Theresa Haskew of New Philadelphia, Stephanie (Rocky) Sheneman of Chicago, and the late Kevin J. Schupbach. Krista’s family also includes 23 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Jim Simpson.
In addition to her son, she was preceded in passing by her biological and adoptive parents.
The family will receive friends at Sacred Heart Church on Thursday from 10 to 10:55 am. Father Jeff Coning will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial in the church beginning at 11 a.m. followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
