Obituary

Kenneth Gerald Peterson, age 83, of Zoarville and formerly of Tippecanoe, died late July 11, 2026, in his residence following a lengthy illness.

Born in Twin City Hospital at Dennison on March 24, 1943, Pete as he was best known to his family and friends was a son of the late Kenneth F. and Alice M. Pyles Peterson.

After graduating from the former Jewett High School, Pete entered into the Ohio National Guard during Vietnam and served for six years prior to his honorable discharge.

In 1964, Pete began working for the former LTV Steel at Canton and retired 35 years later as a millrite under the Republic Steel Company. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his motorcycle and taking hunting trips out West, making trips to Wheeling Island and Atlantic City and being a member of the Scio American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, the former Jolene Shonk, whom he married on October 23, 1989; his children, Sueanne (John) Albaugh of Tappan Lake, and Kenneth “Doug” Peterson of Bowerston; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Helen Shonk , and a brother-in-law, Bob Shonk.

In addition to his parents Pete was preceded in death by an infant sister, Sue Ann Peterson.

In honoring his wishes, there will be no public services. The Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia is handling cremation care. A private burial will take place in the New Cumberland Cemetery.
