Kenneth S. George, age 87, of Newcomerstown, died Saturday, December 23, 2023, while in the care of Community Hospice’s Truman House at New Philadelphia, following a brief illness.

Born in Kittanning, Pennsylvania, on January 13, 1936, Ken was a son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Kerr) George. Ken was raised outside of Kittanning on the family farm in Armstrong County and remained there until he entered the United States Army in 1955. As a member of the 101st Screaming Eagles, Ken attended Engineer School and became a certified heavy equipment operator.

Upon his Honorable Discharge, Ken worked briefly for a couple of firms before joining Consolidated Natural Gas Company. He worked his way through the company and in the late 1960s relocated his family to Ohio where he ultimately worked the remainder of his 34-year career with CNG as the Station Foreman and Supervisor.

In his younger years, Ken was an active member of the Newcomerstown Masonic Lodge Lone Star #175, he was an avid hunter, trapper, fisherman and enjoyed finding arrowheads. Additionally, Ken was a talented woodworker and a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He is survived by his three children, Lori (Mitch) Wolff of Huber Heights, Ohio, Lisa (Bob) Fisher, of Newcomerstown, and Matthew George of New Philadelphia, and his grandchildren, Trinity Wolff, Kyle (Kendra Carpenter) Hunt, and Dakota (Stacie Watkins) George. Completing the family are two sisters, Mary Lou Dilick, and Bonita Poydence; two sisters-in-law, Yvonne Shaffer and Sue George, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his wife, the former Sidney Graham, whom he married on August 14, 1959 and shared in more than 50 years of marriage prior to her death on February 9, 2014; a brother, Patrick George, and four brothers-in-law, Steve Dilick, Rich Poydence, Gene Shaffer, and Thomas Graham.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no public visitation or services. The Geib Funeral Center at Dover will arrange cremation care.
