Judith Ellen “Judy” Peters, 78, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 26, 2025, at Park Village Healthcare Center in Dover.
Born in Dover on April 6, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Paul William and Catherine Bernadine “Bunny” (Hare) Schlafly.
After graduating from New Philadelphia High School, Judy spent 30 years working in the deli at New Philadelphia Buehler’s, where she made many lasting friendships.
Judy loved taking trips with her sister, especially road trips and visits to Myrtle Beach. She often said, “You’re never lost as long as you have a full tank of gas.”
She touched the hearts of many with her quick wit, and outgoing, gregarious spirit. Judy was known for her stubborn streak and her great sense of humor. She had a delightful “nosy and nibby” curiosity about everything. Above all, she loved caring for her children and grandchildren and attending their many events.
As we mourn her loss, we take comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering.
Judy especially loved dressing up for Halloween with her sister—one year as a pregnant nun and another as a Bigfoot hunter—always bringing laughter wherever she went.
She will be deeply missed by her family, including her children, Sandy (Greg) Geib, Patty (Brian) Wertz, and Mike (Terri) Peters; her grandchildren, Zach (Bre) Geib, Logan (Lauren) Geib, Caden Wertz, Kolton Wertz, Riley Peters, and Ryan Peters; and her great-grandchildren, Ben, Crew, Lucy, and Brooks Geib. She is also survived by her sister, Barb Smith, and her nieces and nephews, Tom Smith, Lynne (fiancé David) Courtright, and Amy (Brian) Heston.
In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her infant brother.
A public gathering and service will be held in early 2026 and announced prior to the celebration.
