Deacon Joseph V. Salvo, age 89, of Dover, died peacefully, Monday, April 1, 2024, in Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital at Dover following a period of declining health.
Born in Brooklyn, NY on October 12, 1934, Deacon Joe was a son of the late Joseph and Phyllis (Scotti) Salvo.
He proudly served in the United States Army for two years. After graduating from college, he began his 30-year career with Bell Labs as a Personnel Manager.
Faith was always a source of strength for Joe. He was an ordained Deacon in the Catholic Church and served faithfully in many ministries as well as participated in the March For Life. In his free-time he enjoyed tennis, golf, gardening and being outside with his family.
Deacon Joe is survived by his wife, the former Mary Ragone whom he married on June 4, 1960; his children, Maria (Dave) Diefenderfer of Manassas, Virginia, Joe (Candice) Salvo of Syracuse, Indiana; and Phil (Jodi) Salvo of Bolivar; grandchildren, Liesl (Robert) Ammerlaan, Fritz (Megan) Diefenderfer, Taryn Salvo, Jaryt Salvo, Evan Dippon, Emma Dippon, Matthew Salvo, and Jeremy Salvo; great-grandchildren, Alixzandra, Marley, Dominic, Johannes, Samuel, Ilse, and Cecilia; sisters, Rosemary (John) Murello, and Anice Campagna; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents Deacon Joe was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Francis Campagna; and nephew, Thomas Murello.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Jimmy Hatfield on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover. An inurnment will follow at a later date in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
