Joseph E. Ball, age 99, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully early Wednesday morning, May 14, 2025, in Ohio’s Hospice Truman House at New Philadelphia.
Born in New Philadelphia on July 9, 1925, Joe was a son of the late Arthur M. and Jane Golder Ball. He was a 1943 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and entered the United States Air Force at the end of World War II.
Joe spent his professional career with the former General Telephone Company, where he retired as a Senior Accountant following 33 years of service. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, Eastern Chapter, and previously attended Dover Alliance Church and Bethel Worship Center at Uhrichsville.
In his younger years, Joe enjoyed playing company softball and baseball; and as a left-handed pitcher was known for his knuckle ball. He had an ornery sense of humor which was often followed up with one of his famous quotes or sayings.
He is survived by his children, William A. (Darlene) Ball, Patricia (John) Miller, Debra (Randy) Ewing all of Dover, and Richard A. (Mary) Ball of Gnadenhutten; nine grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by siblings Dorothy Morgan, Donald Ball, Harold Ball, Earl Ball, Robert Ball, Gilbert Ball, and Betty Costello.
In keeping with Joe’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or services. The Geib Funeral Center at Dover is handling cremation care. Private inurnment will take place in the Dover Burial Park.
