John Harvey Wright, Jr., age 73, of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, November 1, 2023, in his residence following a period of declining health.
A son of the late John H. Wright, Sr. and Erma and Ralph Labus, John was born in Union Hospital at Dover on August 21, 1950.
He was a graduate of New Philadelphia High School and entered into the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served his country as a driver at Camp LeJune.
In his younger years, John worked as a Deputy Sherriff for the Tuscarawas County Sherriff’s Office and later relocated to Florida where he worked as a supervisor and member of the maintenance team at CKS Plastics in Orlando, Florida.
John had a deep faith in the Lord and was a longtime member of Jerusalem Church. Next to his devotion to God, came a deep devotion and faithfulness to his family. His soulmate and love of his life, Mary, whom he married on July 27, 1985, created a love story that some have dubbed storybook. The couple enjoyed traveling together and being with family.
Whether it be a practical joke, making light of a tense situation, or pulling a funny novelty from his drawer of tricks, John made it a daily goal to make others laugh. He was a kind hearted, loving, caring person who had a big heart for everyone he met. He also enjoyed flying stunt kites, and decorating for holidays.
John will be deeply missed by his wife of 38 years, Mary Wright; a daughter, Shelli (Rob) Conner of Kimbolton; his grandchildren, Stephanni (Derek) Eubanks, Bram (Ashley) Buckohr, and Cabrini Blain; his great-grandchildren, Alexis “Gizzie” Eubanks, Landon, Grant, Cameron, and Ashton Buckohr, and his beloved cat, Mooch.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Ann Kennedy, and a brother, Charles Wright.
In keeping with John’s wishes there will be no public visitation or services. The Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia is handling cremation care.
