John Robert “Jack” Moreland, age 91, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully, early Wednesday, March 18, 2026, while in the care of Ohio’s Hospice’s Truman House.
Born in Cadiz, Ohio on January 15, 1935, Jack was the middle of 14 children born to the late Homer and Hazel Conard Moreland. After graduating from the former Cadiz High School, Jack entered the United States Army where he served stateside during the Korean War.
Upon his discharge he worked for the R.F. Cole company and soon thereafter began a 35-year career with the United States Postal Service, working as a mail carrier throughout his career.
On June 11, 1961, in the Deersville United Methodist Church Jack married Linda “Nadine” Clark and together the couple raised two children and shared in 60 years of marriage until Nadine’s passing on April 29, 2022.
Jack had a deep, inspirational faith in the Lord which was nurtured for more than 50 years at Roxford Church where he served in various roles. He was an avid golfer and Cleveland sports fan; a lover of classic Western movies and George Jones. Above all, he loved being with his family and enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities and sporting events.
Survivors include his son, John “Jack” (Elisa) Moreland of Dennison; daughter, Jill Cunningham of New Philadelphia; four grandchildren, Zoey (Mitchell) Burcher, Ryder Cunningham , Curtis Moreland, and Derek (Mallory) Moreland; four great-grandchildren, Ariana, Bryce, Bruin, and Bodhi; siblings, George (Janice) Moreland, Daniel (Elizabeth) Moreland, Nellie Erow, Amy Jean (John) Wheeler, Terry (Tim) Henderson; a dear friend, Janice Yager, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Jack was preceded in death by siblings: Homer Moreland, Jr., James Conard Moreland, Tom Moreland, Gladys Brownfield, Mary Ann Fling, Shirley Yoby, Charles D. Moreland, and Herbert Moreland.
The family will greet guests on Sunday, March 22, 2026, from 1 – 4 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Brother Jim Manbeck will lead a celebration of Jack’s life on Monday, March 23, 2026, at 10:30 AM in the funeral home’s Chapel. Burial with military honors provided by the Carl C. Stoller Post 1445 of the New Philadelphia VFW will take place in the Schoenbrunn Meadows Burial Park at New Philadelphia. A meal and fellowship will follow in the Roxford Church Family Life Center.
