Jimmy Alan Picchetti, 78, a beloved father, educator and friend, passed away unexpectedly on June 10, 2025 in New Philadelphia.
Born on November 5, 1946, in Dennison, Jimmy was the son of the late Julius M. and Elizabeth R. (Wilson) Picchetti and had graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, which started his lifelong pursuit to both learning and teaching.
Jimmy began his professional career as a Field Engineer with IBM before transitioning to a Support Representative for a large banking equipment company. However, it was in public education where he truly found his passion. For the last 22 years of his career, he served as the Senior Industrial Electricity Instructor at Buckeye Career Center in New Philadelphia. There, he imparted his knowledge and enthusiasm to students, including teaching a Ham Radio Course as an elective. His impact on his students and the education community was lasting, as he inspired many young minds to pursue their interests in technology and engineering.
An accomplished individual, at just 15 years old, he became a licensed Amateur Radio Operator, a milestone that would spark a passion he would carry throughout his life. Under the call letters AA8FB, he connected with individuals across the globe, exemplifying his love for communication. In addition, he spent countless hours repairing and restoring old telegraph keys, demonstrating his deep appreciation for the history and evolution of his hobby.
In his personal life he was involved in numerous community activities, serving as a leader for the Boy Scouts of America and volunteering at the Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital. He was also a member of the American Radio Relay League, where he fostered friendships and connections within the amateur radio community, further enriching his life.
He is survived by his three sons, Robert (Rebecca) Picchetti of Greenwood, Indiana, Curtis Picchetti of Newton Falls, and Michael Picchetti of New Philadelphia; five grandchildren, Angalina Fruits, Sophia Picchetti, Zoey Picchetti, Aaron Picchetti and Asher Picchetti; his brother, Francis (Denise) Picchetti of New Philadelphia and his lifelong friend, Tom Septer.
In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by a son, Andrew Picchetti and a grandson, Nicco Picchetti.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation care is to be provided by the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A memorial service celebrating Jimmy’s life will be held on Monday, June 16, 2025 at 2 PM in Sharon Moravian Church at Tuscarawas with Pastor Lloyd Gooden and Rev. William Surber officiating. Inurnment will follow in Sharon Moravian Church Cemetery.
