Obituary

Jerry Lee Renner, 86, of Dover, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on July 17, 2026, surrounded by his family after a period of declining health.

Born on January 14, 1940, in Dover, Ohio, Jerry was the son of the late Victor and Susan Renner. He graduated from Dover High School in 1960 and shortly thereafter proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years, spending much of his service stationed in the Philippines.

Following his military service, Jerry returned home to Dover and began working alongside his father in the homebuilding business. Together, they helped develop the Willow Glens allotment just outside of Dover, a neighborhood that today is home to approximately 140 families. In addition to building over 100 homes, Jerry served the Dover City School District as a school bus driver for 26 years before retiring in May 1998.

A true Dover Tornado through and through, Jerry was a lifelong supporter of Dover athletics and faithfully followed the school's sports programs throughout his life.

On August 13, 1967, Jerry married the former Barbara "Barb" Triplett. They shared 57 wonderful years of marriage before Barb's passing on October 6, 2024. Together, they enjoyed camping with the Tusco Travelers and Good Sam Roadrunners Chapter 70. Jerry was also an avid toy train collector and a proud member of the Lionel Collectors Club of America (LCCA). He and Barb traveled throughout the United States attending conventions and made many annual trips to the renowned train shows in York, Pennsylvania.

Jerry was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Dover. Above all else, he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend whose greatest joy came from spending time with his family.

He is survived by his children, Steve (Dawn) Renner of Dover, Terry (Beth) Renner of New Philadelphia, Tina Steck, and Jerry (Annette) Birr of Good Thunder, Minnesota; grandchildren Taylor Koop-Lantz, Alexis Renner, Zackery Steck, Kristi (Dylan) Steiner, Deann Steck, Nick Andrews, and Josie (Houston) Montgomery; seven great-grandchildren; sister Stefanie (Richard) Hathorn; brother-in-law Ronald (Karen) Triplett; sister-in-law Ethel "Sis" Armstrong; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Barbara, and his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his brothers, Roger, and Daniel Renner; Father and Mother-In-Law Guy and Gertrude Triplett; brothers-in-law Raymond Triplett, Richard Triplett, Harry Triplett, Francis "Butch" Triplett, and Nancy Rainsberg.

Visitation will be held in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 from 5 to 7 p.m. A service led by Rev Wesley George will begin at 11 a.m. in the funeral home on Wednesday. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Memory Garden at Dover where the New Philadelphia VFW Post #1445 will render military honors.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Ohio's Hospice for the compassionate care and support provided to Jerry and his family.

Memorial contributions in Jerry's memory may be made to Ohio's Hospice, 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
