Jeffery Alan “Lip” Harrop, 60, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026, at Ohio’s Hospice Truman House following a period of declining health. Born in Zanesville, Ohio, on August 27, 1965, he was the son of the late Edwin L. Harrop and Mona M. (Flowers) Harrop.
Jeff graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1983. In 1988, he moved to Lorain, Ohio, where he worked as a machinist and was married to Halle Norris from 1990 to 1994. In 2004, he returned to the Tuscarawas Valley, where he dedicated more than 20 years of service to Paramount Machine Shop before retiring due to illness.
Known fondly as “Lip,” Jeff was an old soul with a deep love for family, music, and simple pleasures. In his younger years, he shared a passion for flat track motorcycle racing with his father. He was also an avid drummer who owned several drum sets over the years and found great joy in music and live concerts. Among the many shows he attended, his favorite was seeing Rush perform.
Jeff loved cooking and gathering family and friends together, often announcing he was “firing up the grill.” He especially enjoyed relaxing on the front porch of his home, where he could take in the day and enjoy good conversation. Those who knew him will always remember his straightforward wisdom and favorite saying: “No time for a bunch of nonsense.”
He is survived by his sisters, Karen (Tom) Studer of Florida and Amanda (Rick) Martin of New Philadelphia; his nephew, Shane Harrop; nieces, Courtney (Devlin Matthus) Wallick and Megan (Drew) Detweiler; great-nephews, Cash Matthus and Vance Detweiler; and a “shout out to his friends” Doug Reedy, Wendy Busby, Greg Wagner, Chuck Ruszin, Big Al Grewell, Dave Betche, and Monte and Shonette Freshwater.
In addition to his parents, Jeff was preceded in passing by his brother-in-law, Randy Wallick.
A memorial service will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Tuesday, May 26 beginning at 3 pm with Pastor Jim Wallick officiating. Friends may greet the family from 2 to 3 p.m. before the service begins.
