James Sims, 72, of Canal Fulton, formerly of Dover, and firmly of Midvale, passed away in Aultman Hospital on Sunday, December 7, 2025 following a period of declining health.
Born September 14, 1953 at Dover, he was the son of the late Chester and Zora (McKinney) Sims. On January 1, 1994, James married the former Diana Cihon, and together they have enjoyed 31 years of marriage.
James spent many dedicated years serving as Midvale’s Water Superintendent, a role he took great pride in. Outside of work, he was happiest in the great outdoors—whether hunting, fishing, or simply sharing a good story with anyone he met. James never knew a stranger; his humor and easy kindness made people feel instantly welcome. He also enjoyed the excitement of Wheeling Island casino and cherished a memorable family trip to Las Vegas. Wherever he went, James brought laughter, warmth, and a sense of adventure.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Diana Sims; step-sons, Adam Mackey, and Blake (Brittany) Mackey; grandchildren, Laurel Mackey, Audrey Mackey; brothers, John (Dee) Sims, and Ken (Mary) Carroll; sisters, Marlene (Joe) Setvin, and Katie (Gerald) Stout; brother-in-law, David (Wendy) Cihon; special sister-in-law, Brenda (Mike) Mitres, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in passing by sisters, Anna Marie Sims and Margaret Smart.
In keeping with James wishes, cremation care has been entrusted to the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home and Crematory. No services are planned at this time.
