James G. Richter, age 76, of Louisville, Kentucky, and formerly of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, July 29, 2026.

Born in Waukegan, Illinois, on March 30, 1950, Jim was a son of the late Gilbert and M. Jeannette (Brown) Richter.

He attended Zion Benton Township High School in Zion, Illinois, and went on to obtain an Associate Degree from Gateway Technical Institute and further college coursework from Ripon College. Jim later earned a Bachelor of Science in Biblical Studies Management and Ethics from Cincinnati Christian University.

For many years, Jim worked in the law enforcement field having had a brief stint with the FBI, and then working as a police officer in Illinois and Florida. He served as a Private Investigator and in corporate security, and then for many years worked as the Global Security Director for Team Expansion, a missions organization.

Jim’s faith was nurtured through the years at the First Christian Church of New Philadelphia and Hikes Point Christian Church in Louisville, Kentucky. His life was transformed by Jesus many years ago, and his goal in life was to please the Lord.

He is survived by a sister, Barbara Guthrie, of Powder Springs, Georgia; a daughter, Ruthie (Steve) Mann, of North Africa; a son, James (Charissa) Richter of Gays Mills, Wisconsin; step-children, Julie Voss and Bobby Mosley; his grandchildren, Lina, Ria, and Jed Mann, Cecil and Bernadette Richter; step-grandchildren, Devin Mosley, Dylan Mosley, Matthew Sellers, Alex Voss, and also step-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Jim loved his family and was happiest when spending time with them.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carrol Jane Richter; two step-sons, Chester Mosley and William Mosley; and a brother, Ralph Richter.

Pastor Jeff Wallace will lead a memorial service in Louisville, Kentucky, at Hikes Point Christian Church, on Monday, August 3, 2026, at 11 AM, with visitation from 9 to 11 AM.

Additionally, Pastor Jim Borton will lead a brief graveside service in the East Avenue Cemetery in New Philadelphia on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 2 PM.
