James “Jack” Aldergate, 91, of New Philadelphia, passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2023 in Community Hospice-Truman House at New Philadelphia, following a period of declining health.
Born in Alliance, he was the son of the late Joseph and Cesarina “Sis” (Bertolini) Aldergate and had attended St. Mary’s School at Dennison and was a 1949 graduate of the former Dennison High School at Dennison. Jack had retired from Gradall at New Philadelphia where he held many different sales positions over his 38 years of faithful service to the company.
Jack, as some would say, never met a stranger. He could carry on a conversation with anyone about anything. He possessed a great sense of humor and would always have a joke or two that he was willing to share. Jack loved to travel and was fortunate enough to visit many different countries both with his wife and also for his work. However, more than anything, Jack loved his family and loved spending time with them.
Jack was also a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia and member of B.P.O.E #510 at New Philadelphia.
On January 11, 1951, Jack married the love of his life, Beverly (Arnold) Aldergate and together they shared over 72 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, Jack is survived by his four children, Jan Aldergate of New Philadelphia, Rebecca (Robert) Terakedis of Dover, Laura (Bob) Heidenreich of Mesa, Arizona and James (Laura) Aldergate of Columbus; three grandsons, David Wragg of England, Robert Terakedis of Concord, North Carolina and Jack Aldergate of Columbus; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Howell of England and Samantha Orr of New York; four great-grandchildren, Noah Howell, Elias Howell, Andrew Terakedis, Natalie Terakedis and his sister-in-law, Virginia Trimmer of New Philadelphia.
In addition to his parents, Jack is preceded in death by two brothers, John Aldergate and Louis Aldergate, two sisters, Dawna Heston and Clara Hinig and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at 10:30 AM in Sacred Heart Church at New Philadelphia with Father Jeff Coning officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
It was Jack’s wish that memorial contributions be directed to either Sacred Heart Church, 139 Third Street NE, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663 or, Community Hospice-Truman House, 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663 or online at https://www.myhospice.org/options-giving.
