James Edward Bracken

James Edward Bracken, age 78, of Dover, died peacefully, early Saturday, April 4, 2026, in his residence following a period of declining health.

Born on January 18, 1948, in Mercy Hospital at Canton, Jim was the son of the late James C. and Marilyn J. Mishler Bracken.

After graduating from Perry High School, he attended Florida State University on a football scholarship and later transferred to Kent State University, where he completed his Bachelor of Industrial Arts. For a period of time, he participated in a co-op with the Ford Motor Company and later worked for Gradall at New Philadelphia. Jim later purchased and operated Town and Country Dry Cleaners in Canton, retiring in 2014.

Meeting Jim felt like gaining an immediate friend. He loved being around people; his gentle, kind spirit was always present. He had a unique way of making those around him feel valued. This quality was admired and loved by the center of his world, his family. He was his kids' and grandchildren’s biggest fan, supporting them in all of their athletic endeavors.

In his retirement years, he enjoyed time spent bass fishing, working in his garden, and woodworking. Jim was also a lifelong, avid sports fan.

He will be deeply missed by his wife of 54, years, the former Cindy Kesling, whom he married on January 29, 1972; their children, Michelle (John) Riddle of Lancaster, Ohio, Holly (Scott Long) Bracken of Dennison, and Todd (Lisa) Bracken of Sunbury, Ohio; his grandchildren, Bodie (Meghan), Peyton, and Camden, Elly, Knox, and Lake; two sisters, Kris (Bill) Lee and Carla Martin as well as his nieces and nephews.

In honoring Jim’s wishes, a private celebration of his life will be held. The Geib Funeral Center at Dover is handling cremation arrangements.
