Jacob Royce Bierwirth

Jacob Royce Bierwirth, age 21, of Dover, died Tuesday, August 5, 2025, as a result of an accident while hiking the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail.

Jacob, the youngest son born to Lisa Mahoney Bierwirth of Dover and the late Royce A. Bierwirth, was born in Aultman Hospital at Canton on May 7, 2004.

Jacob was a 2022 graduate of Tusky Valley High School, where he adopted the nickname “Jackob.” He was best described as sweet, loving, independent, compassionate, and easygoing who had a natural ability to make friends effortlessly.

He loved the outdoors and found peace and joy in nature. Some of his favorite places to explore included Dundee Falls, the Zoar Valley Trail, and the Towpath Trail, where he often hiked with friends.

He especially looked forward to weekly wiffleball games, which became a time to share laughter and create lasting memories.

Jacob had a deep passion for music, with a special love for bands like Eidola and My Chemical Romance. He found joy in discovering new music and sharing his latest finds with family and friends.

His professional career piqued his interest in food preparation and experimenting in the kitchen. Having previously worked at Starbucks in New Philadelphia, The Delaware, and The Venue, Jacob was looking into starting classes at the Culinary Institute of America this coming winter.

He will be deeply missed by his mother, Lisa; his siblings, Cameron Bierwirth, Lucas Bierwirth all of Dover and Danielle Bierwirth of Bolivar; his grandparents, Jean Mahoney of Maryland, and Barb and Clark Bierwirth of Akron; his uncle, George (Carrie) Mahoney of New Jersey; his aunts, Shelly (husband, Joe Liccese) Mahoney of New Jersey, and Katy (Kevin) Kerwin of Maryland, as well as numerous cousins and countless friends.

In addition to his father, Jacob was preceded in death by his grandfather, George Mahoney.

A casual celebration of Jacob’s life will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, from 4 – 7 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover where family and friends will gather to share stories, special memories, and honor his loving nature.

Jacob found the cause to save the honey bee to be very worthwhile; in honoring his life, the family requests memorial contributions, instead of flowers, be directed to Save The Bees Foundation, PO Box 278656, Sacramento, California 95827.
