Iommiesene “Sene” Ray Sherrell, age 89, of Dover, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, from Hennis Care Center at Dover.
Born July 27, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Blanche Bernice (Curtis) Ray.
Together with her loving husband of 56 years, the late Rev. Willie P. Sherrell, whom she wed May 2, 1953, at Dover, they shared the gospel by making beautiful music. The Healing Waters Ministries, a family group lead in singing by Rev. Sherrell, also included Sene on the keyboard while singing alongside her husband, and their son, Ray, who played drums.
Sene was a much loved and a tremendous nurse to many families throughout the community. She was also an excellent cook. Some of her famous dishes included greens, sweet potato pie, German chocolate cake and coconut cake to name a few.
She’ll be deeply missed by her son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Kim Sherrell of New Philadelphia; her great-granddaughter, Jazzy Ray Sherrell; brother, Curtis Ray of California; her half-siblings, Winston Ray of Portland, Melinda Ray of Dover, and Effron Ray of Canton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sene was preceded in passing by her parents; her husband, The Rev. Willie Perry Sherrell; her son, Dennis P. Sherrell; and her granddaughter, Makaya R. Sherrell.
