Harvey Byers

Harvey L. Byers, age 76, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2025, in his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Dennison on September 26, 1948, to the late Charles E. and Beatrice M (Huntley) Byers.

Harvey was a 1966 graduate of Midvale High School. He was an athlete in high school and set many school records. In 1966 he was named Mr. Blue Devil. He retired from Greer Steel after 30 years of employment. Harvey was always known for his ability to come up with ways to fix just about anything.

Always an athlete he enjoyed golfing all of his life. In retirement he worked for 20 years at Five Waters Golf Course. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. He never missed a school activity and would take his grandchildren golfing with him. He accepted the Lord over 16 years ago and he and Vickie attended Mosaic Church.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Vickie (Garrett) Byers, whom he married on July 31, 1988; his children, Denise Mackey of Dennison, Greg Byers of New Philadelphia, Ron (Sabrina) Roberts of Tippecanoe, and Stephanie (Don) Gatti of Mt. Eaton; grandchildren, Jessica Byers, Jared Byers, Corey Roberts, Veronica Roberts, Brittani Roberts, Landon Gatti, Sydnie Gatti, Sadie Gatti, Sierra Swigert, Kingston Swigert, and Tynsley Swigert; three great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Samra Crocker, and Barbara (Chester) Orr.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles Byers; and mother-in-law, Mildred Garrett.

In keeping with Harvey’s wishes, cremation care has been entrusted to the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home and Crematory. No services are planned.

The family wishes to thank Crossroads Hospice for their care of Harvey. Memorial donations in Harvey’s name may be given to Crossroads Hospice Charitable Foundation, 10810 E. 45th St, Suite 300, Tulsa, OK 74146.
