Hannah Eileen Smith

December 3, 2004 — August 5, 2025

Tuscarawas

Hannah Eileen Smith, a beautiful, loving, vibrant soul, died Tuesday, August 5, 2025, as a result of an accident while hiking on the Towpath Trail near Zoarville.

Born in Union Hospital at Dover, Hannah is a daughter of Mark and Jennifer Geiser Smith of Tuscarawas.

She was a 2023 graduate of Indian Valley High School where she played the saxophone and served as the Field Commander during her Senior year. Hannah had a deep passion for music; having taught herself to play the guitar and trumpet, and was looking forward to seeing this year’s marching band performances which now include her younger sister.

To know Hannah was to have a built-in cheerleader alongside you. She loved everyone she encountered, easily made new friends, and never let anyone feel left out or different. She had a true gift of looking at all aspects of life in a positive manner and was wise beyond her years, often stating: “Good for you for living your best life.” She was unashamedly herself in all aspects of her own life. She has been described as cheerful, positive, and incredibly helpful. She sought out ways to help others and did it with passion.

When it came to arts, music wasn’t Hannah’s only talent. She had a deep love for photography, often taking afternoon or evening picnics with friends which turned to impromptu photo shoots along the way. She was a gifted painter, artist, and an avid reader.

Hannah was a nature lover who enjoyed birds, the night sky, and simply being outdoors. She loved her cat, Cleo, and her studies online with Arizona State University where she was finding her place in the world in which she could settle on a career and was a valued team member of the Dover Starbucks.

Hannah will be deeply missed by her parents, Mark and Jennifer, her boyfriend, Harry Tollhurst, IV; her siblings, Megan (Alex) Maicks, Dakota Smith, Emily (Brandon) Garbrandt, Brianna Smith, Chelsea Smith, Mark (Desinty) Smith, Jr., and Allison Smith; her grandparents, Sam and Linda Geiser, and Willis Smith. Numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins complete the family.

Hannah was preceded in death by her grandmother, Becky Yosick.

The family will greet guests on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, from 4 – 7 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A Service celebrating Hannah’s life will be led by Pastor Sandra Hall on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 11 AM in the funeral home’s chapel. A private interment will take place at a later date in the Dover Burial Park.

The family requests to honor Hannah’s life, step outside of your comfort zone, and help someone in need or make a donation to a charity of your choice in her memory.
