Emblem

Halcyon L. "Hal" Clantz, 90, of New Philadelphia and formerly of Uhrichsville, passed away peacefully in Park Village Southside at New Philadelphia on Monday, May 20, 2024.

Hal was the son of the late Joe B. and Lucille (Baker) Clantz and during the Korean War, he served with honor in the United States Navy before eventually being honorably discharged. His service to his country reflected his deep sense of duty and patriotism.
Hal's professional journey led him to retire from the former Associated Grocers at Dennison, where he poured his heart and soul into every task he undertook. Known for being a hard worker with an unmatched attention to detail, Hal was not one to shy away from putting in the effort to ensure that every job was completed.

Beyond his work career, Hal will be remembered as a man who took great pride in the appearance of his lawn - a testament to his meticulous nature and dedication to perfection. His commitment to maintaining a beautiful lawn was just one example of the care and precision he brought to everything he did.

Often described as "ornery" by some who knew him well, Hal possessed a spirit that was both fiery and endearing. His determination and strong-willed nature were trademarks of his personality, shaping the way he approached life's challenges.

Hal is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Jayne Clantz of Dennison; his daughter and son-in-law, Joni and David Liggett of New Philadelphia; a sister, Ruth McCormick of Dover; a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph “Merle” and Kathy Clantz of Uhrichsville; six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and his longtime companion, Margie Singerman of New Philadelphia.

In addition to his parents, Hal was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Clantz and two sisters, Joyce Petry and Janice Hill.

In keeping with Hal’s wishes, cremation care will be provided by the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia and public services are not to be scheduled.

The family would also like to thank the entire staff of Park Village Southside and the staff of Traditions Hospice for all of their loving and compassionate care that was given to Hal during his period of declining health.
