Obituary

H. Donald Patterson Jr, 85, of Dover died August 10, 2026.

Born September 26,1940, he was the only child of the late H. Donald Patterson Sr. and A. Lucille Patterson. A life resident of the area, he attended Midvale Grade School and High School, Ohio State University, Kent State University, Rutgers University Stonier Graduate School of Banking, and Traynor’s Police Academy. He received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army after serving six months of active duty and 5 ½ years in the Ready Reserve as a truck driver with the 717th Transportation Battalion.

On October 9, 1966, Don married Rosann Kopp of Tuscarawas at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in New Philadelphia. They were very grateful and pleased to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary together October 9, 2016, which was shortly before Rosann’s passing on January 1, 2017, from a long illness.

Don retired as a vice president with 34 years combined service at the Reeves Bank and then Huntington Bank after their merger. Following that retirement, he was a Tuscarawas County deputy sheriff for five years and completed his employment years as a trustee and executive director of Dover’s Reeves Foundation for 16 years until 2018. Upon his final retirement, he enjoyed having more time to polish and drive his special-interest cars, some dating back over 50 years, and care for his beloved rescued dog, Marshal.

Don and Rosann were the proud parents of daughter Marne Jo Patterson Brunner of Ravenna and son Chip (Abbie) Patterson of Dover, both of whom survive. Six grandchildren (Sam, Toby, Corban, and Josie Brunner and Max and Annie Patterson) complete the surviving family.

Funeral services will be held at Geib Funeral Center in Dover on August 13 beginning at 11:00 AM, with visitation being held one hour prior to the service. A private family graveside service will be held in Dover Burial Park.

Memorial contributions in Don's memory may be directed to the Tuscarawas County Humane Society, 1432 Tall Timber Rd. NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
