Gregory Allen Meese, age 69, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully, following a three-year battle with cancer on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, in his residence under the care of Ohio’s Hospice.
Born in Union Hospital at Dover on March 24, 1955, Greg was a son of the late Adrian E. “Gene” and Phyllis A. Fagley Meese.
Greg was a 1973 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and that same year, his father, Gene, opened Meese Woodcrafts. Greg went on to stay with his father and brother in the operation of the firm for the next thirty years until its closing. Never straying far from the construction and craftsman field, Greg began working for Mario Ionno Construction and has remained with the firm for the past 20 years. He was known as a hard worker who never slowed down even through his battle with cancer.
Greg enjoyed hunting deer, geese, and ducks, spending time gardening and decorating both the inside and outside of his home for various holiday seasons. He had a great sense of humor and deeply loved his rescue pup, Cooper. Most of all, Greg loved his family, especially his step-children and grandson.
He is survived by his wife, the former Jill Limbacher whom he married on April 1, 2011; his step-daughter, Alexis (fiancé, Kenny Pritz) Sweasey and step-son, Colton Sweasey; his step-grandson, Wyatt Pritz; a brother, David (Vickie) Meese of Hudson and Sue (Clay) Huenemann of Indiana as well as his nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering celebrating Greg’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, from 4 – 7 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.
